Burns Visiting Scholars

:

Patricia Donlon (Academic Year 2000-2001)

Patricia Donlon is a former Director of the National Library of Ireland, and is the first woman to serve in that position. She also previously served as director of the Tyrone Guthrie Center at Annaghmakerrig. Donlon’s research and publications have centered on the history of the book in Ireland, as well as Irish illustrators and Irish children’s literature. Fittingly, during her appointment as Burns Scholar, she presented a lecture on writings for children produced by well-known authors such as James Joyce and Roddy Doyle. More recently, Donlon has acted as Chair of the Judging Panel for the Irish Times Literary Award, The Press Photographer of the Year Award, and The Dublin Airport Authority Irish Children’s Book of the Year.
