Timothy O’Neill, a teacher at St. Benildus College, Dublin, is a prolific calligrapher in the traditional Irish style. He is also a scholar of the Irish manuscript tradition, and is the author of several books on the subject, as well as a contributor to the Royal Irish Academy’s A New History of Ireland. O’Neill’s many noted works include the Cardinal Ó Fiaich Memorial Gospel Book and a Celtic-style “dove” design created for British Airways tailfins. In 2011, the Offally city council commissioned O’Neill to create a ceremonial scroll based in part on the Book of Durrow, which was presented to President and Mrs. Obama upon their visit to Dublin.
