Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill is a celebrated poet known for her poems in the Irish language. Her poetry is deeply immersed in Irish myths and history, as well as social and culture themes such as femininity and sexuality as manifest in contemporary Irish life. Ní Dhomhnaill has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including membership in Aosdána and a tenure as Ireland Professor of Poetry (2001-2004). In 1997, prior to her time as Burns Visiting Scholar, the Burns Library acquired Ní Dhomhnaill’s papers, an important resource for scholars of modern Irish.

During her tenure as Burns Scholar, the Burns Library also hosted an exhibit of her writing notebooks.
