Mary McAleese (Fall 2013)

​Mary McAleese was Ireland’s second female president and its first president from Northern Ireland, serving in that office from 1997 until 2011.  She holds a law degree from Queen’s University Belfast and was Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College Dublin from 1975 until 1987. She also formerly held the position of Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University Belfast. In recent years, McAleese has taught at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham in London and at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana.
