Journal Article with Journal Title Abbreviation Citation Samples

For this case, you may use Zotero by modifying your item information.

For example, if you want to cite an article from an academic journal that has an abbreviation listed in the SBL Handbook of Style, Chapter 8, you can follow these steps:

Let’s say you want to cite an article titled “Patriarch without a Narrative: Deconstructing / Reconstructing the Saga of Isaac in Genesis 25-26” by David Richter, published in the Journal title Jewish Bible Quarterly volume 48, no. 2 (April 2020), pages 73–89.

  1. Save the article information online using the Zotero icon or manually enter the information into the Zotero application.
  2. Check if the journal abbreviation is listed in the SBL Handbook of Style, Chapter 8. The abbreviation for Jewish Bible Quarterly is “JBQ”.
  3. Enter the abbreviation (JBQ) in the “Journal Abbr” field of the item and click “Enter” to save the change.
  4. Set the document preference to “Society of Biblical Literature 2nd edition (full note)”.
  5. In your Microsoft Word document, add a citation using the Zotero connector.

These steps will help ensure your citation is formatted correctly according to SBL guidelines.
