Founded in 1945, the United Nations an Intergovernmental Organization (IGO) made up of many affiliated programs, councils, funds, and organizations such as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Trade Centre (ITC).  There are approximately 190 member states.
