Welcome to this research guide on the New Testament. While by no means comprehensive, this guide gathers highly used and faculty preferred resources on the New Testament into one place. Emphasis has been placed on digital resources for remote research and writing.

Introductory Works to Exegesis

While a professor may assign specific pericopes and outlines to their students, it may be beneficial to familiarize yourself with scholastic suggestions and overviews regarding the exegetical process. The following are resources that may be useful to students unfamiliar with exegesis or looking to expand their understanding:

Elements of Biblical Exegesis by Michael J. Gorman
Designed for students, teachers, and ministers, this hands-on guide breaks the task down into seven distinct elements. For each of these, Gorman supplies a clear explanation, practical hints, and suggested exercises to help the reader develop exegetical proficiency.
Biblical Exegesis by John H. Hayes; Carl R. Holladay
This new edition retains the features of the early editions: a minimum of technical terms, solid introductory guidelines in exegetical methods, and a valuable presentation of exegetical theory and practice. It is ideal for general introductory exegesis courses, introductions to the Old and New Testaments, and introduction to preaching, as well as for pastors and lay leaders.
