Newton College of the Sacred Heart was a residential liberal arts college for women, founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart in 1946. With diminishing enrollment leading to financial stress in the 1970s, Newton College was consolidated with its near neighbor, Boston College, in 1975. Its Centre St. campus now houses BC’s first year students and is the location of the Boston College Law School. Boston College recognizes the alumna of Newton College and considers these graduates part of the legacy that is the Boston College Alumni.
This collection consists of photographs, slides, and albums documenting: activities and student life (such as classroom activities, dorm and resident life, sports teams and events, student outings, and yearly gatherings); campus buildings and their construction; special occasions like balls, commencements, dedications, dinners, honors and awards, the father-daughter weekend, junior weekend, and masses; students, faculty, religious figures like Cardinal Agagianian and Cardinal Cushing; local groups and organizations, visitors; and yearbook photographs.
