About This Guide

This highly selective guide covers the most useful, current and basic reference sources for social sciences and historical information on the Latin American countries and region. It includes print, electronic and microform formats and is arranged by reference type.

This research guide addresses the available reference resources available for researching Latin America, for reviewing the literature about the area and for solving related questions during your research. Glossary of terms defines and explains many of library terms used in this research guide.

This guide includes sources professors expect students to consult when researching paper topics and locating data or evidence to support a thesis.

Since the purpose of this guide is to facilitate your research and is only part of the research process, you are encouraged to ask the Reference Desk Staff or me questions while you are in the library or email me your questions.

While the intent of this guide is to get you started on your library research by providing the tools for research, A Step-by-Step Guide to Doing Research explains the research process.

Additional information and guidance is available from the Subject Specialist for Latin American Studies, Shari Grove (617-552-4481; grove@bc.edu).
