Tips for book searching

Here are two primary ways to locate books on your topic:

  1. Review bibliographies in other relevant works (either in reference works or other books or articles).  Looking at some of the cited sources is a good place to start.
  2. Search by subject in the BC Library Search.  Subject headings are not always intuitive; if you are unable to deduct what the proper heading is through a few preliminary searches, try looking up the heading on the Library of Congress Authorities website. For more on this process, see this video.  For examples of subject headings in historical theology, see the list provided at the bottom of this page.

Notable book series and collections

Here are a few notable monographic series and multi-volume sets.  To find others, search by "series title" in the Advanced Search of BC Library Search.

Subject headings to locate print materials

Below are some headings assigned to books on the history of Christianity; please know that this list is far from exhaustive.  Note that you can also search by a particular geography with "Church history" subheading.  For example:  "Africa -- Church history"
