Research at BC

2023

Welcome!

This guide provides a starting point for researchers using and building off of economic numerical data, statistics, scholarly research, and policy documents. It also has information on economics journal articles and reference materials which may assist researchers in locating other useful data sets and resources. The guide includes both United States and International resources.

As of February 2024, we have limited access to Economist Intelligence Unit. Please direct any feedback about this resource to the Economics Librarian.

Finding Data

Economics Research often requires data, which sometimes is found using a library database which are detailed in other tabs in this guide. Other times, data will be collected by governments, agencies, institutions, or groups and delivered on those specific websites. Below are the big three U.S sources for Economics papers and assignments at Boston College.

A Note on Health Data

Health data is often restricted to protect confidentiality of survey respondents and HIPAA. This includes data from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Medicare and Medicaid

Every state is different. As an example, New York State provides health data on a specific website

We do provide access to the American Hospital Association Annual Survey Data linked below.
