Recording Video Assignments

Zoom is the preferred method for recording video assignments. You and your partner do not need to be in the same physical location, and the video file can be easily submitted to Canvas.

Instructions:

  1. Log onto a Zoom meeting with your partner.
  2. Make sure that you are using Gallery View so that both you and your partner are displayed side-by-side in the Zoom window, regardless of who is speaking. If you are in Speaker View, click the “View” button in the top right corner of the Zoom window, and then select “Gallery.”
  3. Ensure that you and your partner can see and hear each other clearly.
  4. In the black menu bar at the bottom of the Zoom window, click the “Record” button. If you are given the option to “Record on this Computer” or “Record to the Cloud,” select “Record on this Computer.”
  5. When you are finished with the interview, stop the recording by clicking the square button in the top left of your Zoom window.
  6. When you end the meeting, a box will pop up indicating that the recording is being converted. Do not close your computer until this process is complete.
  7. The recording will automatically be saved in a folder called “Zoom,” which can be found in the Documents folder on your computer. Each recording will have three files--the file ending in “.mp4” is the one you will be submitting on Canvas.

Uploading Video Assignments to Panopto (in Canvas)

You will submit your recorded video to Canvas by uploading it to Panopto.

Please Note! If your professor has asked you to submit your video a different way, follow their instructions.

  1. Navigate to the Assignments page of your Canvas course, and click on the Video Assignment
  2. Click "Start Assignment."
  3. A Text Entry box will open up. At the end of the row of formatting options, click on the three vertical dots, then select the green triangular symbol.

  1. In the window that opens up, select Upload.
  2. In the Search bar at the top of the window, type "Assignments."
  3. A folder with the name of the course and [assignments] at the end should appear in the drop-down menu. Click on it. If multiple folders appear in the drop down menu, make sure that you are selecting the correct course (e.g. SCWK7762.01) and year (e.g. Fall 2021).
  4. Click where it says "Choose video or audio files."
  5. Select the video file from your computer (Documents → Zoom → Date the video was recorded).
  6. The video may take a while to process. Do not close the window until it is completed.
  7. Click Insert, in the bottom right corner. The video will appear in the text entry box.
  8. Click Submit assignment.
