History of Medicine

High quality digital facsimiles of some of the greatest historical medicinal texts from 17th c. BCE Egypt to 19th c. Mongolia as well as 13 c. Islamic world and 16th c. Europe.

This collection features approximately 4500 full page plates and other significant illustrations of human anatomy selected from the Jason A. Hannah and Academy of Medicine collections in the history of medicine at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto. There are ninety-five individual titles represented, ranging in date from 1522 to 1867.

Nearly 500 volumes of Arabic manuscripts covering not only medicine and pharmacology, but cosmology, alchemy, cookery and more are available online.

the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) collection of Islamic medical manuscripts, "one of the three greatest in the world," "The illustrated, online catalog with over 330 texts, includes essays on the featured texts accompanied by thumbnail images, physical descriptions, provenance, and additional resources.
