Following up with Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a useful tool for citation tracing (seeing how a source has been cited by other people).  Citation tracing can be a helpful way to evaluate the impact of a particular publication and also identify more recently published material that may also be useful to your research.

  • Configure Google Scholar to search the collections of the BC Libraries (Settings→Library Links; enter “Boston College” in search bar and select the check box and hit the “save” button.)
  • Search the titles of articles, chapters, or books and click on the “Cited by” link under the title in the search results.  You can then see the titles of works that cited the work you entered, and search within them if you wish.Google Scholar search by cited references
