Cambridge Companions Online offers introductory "companions" in the humanities including German culture and literature. Examples include The Cambridge Companion to Goethe, The Cambridge Companion to German Romanticism, The Cambridge Companion to German Idealism and The Cambridge Companion to the Modern German Novel.

The Cambridge History of German Literature.
With signed essays on periods of German literature, this work includes a 75 page bibliographic section with selected titles organized by the time periods covered in the essays.
A Companion to German Literature: From 1500 to the Present. (1997)
