The Digest includes a selection of data from many sources, both government and private, and draws especially on the results of surveys and activities carried out by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), from 1995 to current.

The primary purpose of the Fast Facts website is to provide users with concise information on a range of educational issues, from early childhood to adult learning.

Census 2011 School District Profiles which includes census data along with number of students, teachers and schools and a Local Education Agency Finance Survey. Also offers Census 2011 School District Maps.

TIMSS and PIRLS are international assessments that monitor trends in student achievement in mathematics, science, and reading. Currently 70 countries participate in the assessments, which have been conducted at regular intervals since 1995.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the only assessment that measures what U.S. students know and can do in various subjects across the nation, states, and in some urban districts.

The ED Data Inventory describes data reported to the Department of Education as part of grant activities, along with administrative and statistical data assembled and maintained by the Department.

The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is the official and trusted source of internationally-comparable data on education, science, culture and communication. As the official statistical agency of UNESCO, the UIS produces a wide range of state-of-the-art databases to fuel the policies and investments needed to transform lives and propel the world towards its development goals. The UIS provides free access to data for all UNESCO countries and regional groupings from 1970 to the most recent year available.
