4. Search Drugs in SciFinderⁿ

Search Topic

Drug example: ropinirole, a former "top 200" small molecule drug  2D structure of ropinirole hydrochloride

Search for a Drug in SciFinder-n

  1. Select the SciFinder-n Substances search button Substances search option
  2. Enter the full generic name of the drug (which may be a salt, like ropinirole hydrochloride) from its label
  3. Select results for the drug molecule itself (ropinirole) and also for the salt used as a medicine (ropinirole hydrochloride), since SciFindern labels them as unique substances
  4. Click ScFinder-n References search button References at the top of the screen, then click Selected Results
  5. Optional: Use the Filter by option on the sidebar to select Journal (under Document Type) and English (under Language) SciFinder-n Document Type Journal filter SciFinder-n Language English filter
  6. Optional: Click SciFinder-n Save and Alert button Save and Alert, name the results set, then click All Answers

Find references in SciFindern about ropinirole and also its salt, ropinirole hydrochloride.

Find Literature about Drug Syntheses

  1. Use results from a Substances search, or previously saved SciFinder-n "Saved " icon results, to find references about syntheses
  2. Optional: Remove unwanted filters by unchecking the boxes in the Filter Behavior sidebar
  3. Use the Filter by option on the sidebar to select Preparation (under Substance Role) SciFinder-n Substance Role Preparation filer
  4. Optional: Use the Filter by option on the sidebar to select Journal (under Document Type) and English (under Language), if your results set was not already filtered by these factors.

Search for English-language journal articles about the synthesis of ropinirole.

Find Literature About Other Aspects of a Drug

  1. Use results from a Substances search, or previously saved SciFinder-n "Saved " icon results, to find references about syntheses
  2. Optional: Remove unwanted filters by unchecking the boxes in the Filter Behavior sidebar
  3. Use the Filter by option on the sidebar to click View All (under Concept) SciFinder-n Concept pulldown. Red arrow points to "View All" link.
  4. Select relevant Concepts from the list—use the Alphanumeric display to find all terms beginning with the same character string, or Search to determine if a term is included somewhere in the full list of Concepts—and then click Apply
  5. Optional: Use the Filter by option on the sidebar to select Journal (under Document Type) and English (under Language), if your results set was not already filtered by these factors.
