All print and electronic materials in the Boston Libraries Collection can be found by searching Quest, the online catalog. Materials not owned by Boston College can be located at other libraries using the WorldCat database. All printed books and journals are classified by Library of Congress call number; materials in Biology are located on the third floor of O'Neill Library. Journals in microform can be found on the first floor.
Locating Books or Journals in Quest
Searching by Subject
On the Basic Search screen, choose "Subject heading beginning with ...", then type in the Browse box: molecular biology (or, more specialized terms, such as: molecular genetics; gene expression; etc.).Alternatively, if you are looking for materials on a more specific topic in biology, use the Keyword search box:
To find material on gene regulation, type: gene* and regulat*
(The "*" is a truncation symbol that will retrieve various forms of each word: gene, genes, genetic, regulation, regulatory, regulators. The "and" will require that both terms appear, but not necessarily in the same phrase.)By Title or Author
On the Basic Search screen, choose "Title beginning with ..." to locate a specific work or, choose "Author beginning with ..." to find books written by a particular author.Electronic Journals
Electronic journals can also be found listed on the Electronic Journals page, by title and subject. If you don't find what you need listed, try Quest since Quest will provide access to any journal we own, whether in print or online.
