Curriculum sets

Lessons 1-4: Advent (kit with stand; accessory set)

There are four lessons for each of the four Sundays of Advent, and each one uses both the kit with the stand and the accessory set.  Lessons 2-4 also use the Holy Family set from volume 2.

Lesson 6: The Mystery of Christmas

 

Godly Play Mystery of Christmas

 

This lesson is given on either the Sunday before or after Christmas, and is based on the book, The Glorious Impossible by Madeline L'Engle, which focuses on seven moments in the infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke.  The related biblical texts include Luke 1:35, Luke 1:46-49, Luke 2:6-7, Matthew 2:1-2, Luke 2:29-3:2, Matthew 2:16-18, and Matthew 2:13.

 

 


 

Lesson 7: Epiphany

 

Godly Play Epiphany

 

As the title suggests, this lesson is given on Epiphany.  The materials from the Advent lessons (see above) are also used.   Please note that these lessons are meant to be administered by adults only; the materials are not to be handled by children as they involve potentially hazardous items (that are burned).

 


 

 

Lesson 8: Holy Baptism

 

Godly Play Holy Baptism

 

This lesson is on the sacrament of baptism, and is appropriate to give after the First Sunday after Epiphany/Baptism of our Lord.  Please note that these items are not provided: box of matches, candle snuffer, bowl of sand, basket of candles with drip guards, Christ Candle.  You will need to check out the baby doll(s) to be used in addition to the other lesson materials.

Lesson 9: Parable of the Good Shepherd

 

Godly Play Parable of the Good Shepherd

 

This lesson focuses on the Parable of the Good Shepherd, given by Jesus.  The biblical texts that inform the lesson are Matthew 18:12-14; Luke 15:1-7; John 10; and Psalm 23.

This lesson focuses on the Parable of the Good Samaritan, given by Jesus.  The biblical text is Luke 10:30-35.

This lesson focuses on the Parable of the Great Pearl, as told by Jesus in Matthew 13:45.

This lesson focuses on the Parable of the Mustard Seed, as found in Matthew 24:32; Mark 4:30-32; and Luke 13:18-19.

This lesson explores the question that is raised at the beginning of each parable lesson: "What's really inside a parable?"

 


 

Lesson 17: Parable of the Deep Well

 

Godly Play Parable of the Deep Well

 

This lesson is based on a rabbinical parable about parables, and it can be presented at any time, once children have heard other parables.

Lessons 18-19: Parable Synthesis

 

Godly Play Parable Synthesis

 

This lesson contains a review and synthesis of the parables from the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), and the "I Am" statements from the Gospel of John. It includes games that are appropriate for children nine years old and older.
