Getting Material Not at BC

This guide focuses on a number of resources useful for research in Education.

Getting Materials from Other Libraries

The BC Libraries offers access to millions of books, hundreds of databases, and more, but you may still encounter a time when you need materials that aren't currently available at BC. Thankfully, there are several ways to get materials:

1. Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary loan, or ILL for short, is a service that allows you to borrow materials from other libraries, including articles, scanned book chapters, and entire physical items (books, microfilm, etc.). To request an item you can't find at BC, log into your ILL account with your BC username and password and place a new request. Scanned articles and chapters usually arrive digitally within 48 hours, and physical items typically arrive within one to two weeks.

2. Boston Library Consortium: Use your Eagle ID to borrow items from Boston University, Brandeis University, and Northeastern University. Visit O'Neill library to obtain a BLC card in order to access additional member libraries, such as Tufts and UMass.

3. Local Public Libraries: Massachusetts is home to a wide array of public library systems, including the Boston Public Library and the Minuteman Library Network. As a BC community member, you are likely able to obtain a physical or digital library card to borrow items from these libraries. Sign up for a BPL ecard or Minuteman ecard, or visit a local branch to get a physical card and borrow items in person.
