Loan policies at the Boston College Libraries

Returning material

Returning In Person: BC books and ILL books can be returned to any library when open or to the exterior book drops at O'Neill Library 1st floor between the doors to the atrium or the Theology & Ministry Library.

Renewals

Most eligible loans are automatically renewed three days before the due date. However, students in their final semester prior to graduation must handle renewals through their Library Account

BC students, faculty, and staff can renew BC-owned books online using your Library Account. BC alumni, retirees, and guests should email renewal requests to notices@bc.edu or call 617-552-8038.

Office Pickup & Renewal

Faculty and Staff can request pickup of library materials from university offices and arrange a time for library staff to visit offices to re-loan items that have either reached the renewal limit or have moved to 'lost' status.

Limitations

  • Recalled items, ILL materials, and items temporarily borrowed from non-circulating collections cannot be renewed.
  • This service does not include delivering materials from a Boston College Library to your office.
  • Requests must be placed at least seven days in advance. We will contact you to establish an appointment time.
  • This service is only available to Faculty and Staff based on Main and Newton Campuses.
