Updating EZproxy links to OpenAthens

Updating Links from EZproxy to OpenAthens

To update your links after the switch to OpenAthens, we recommend that you create new permalinks to each resource (database, journal, article, video, or site) using the instructions on Linking to Library Resources.

URLs that use OpenAthens linking

For most URLs that contain the proxy link, replace the proxy with the new OpenAthens link: 

https://go.openathens.net/redirector/bc.edu?url= 

  • EZproxy starting URL: https://proxy.bc.edu/login?url=https://www.jstor.org
  • Becomes: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/bc.edu?url=https://www.jstor.org

Listed below are specific databases or platforms that do NOT use OpenAthens linking in the URL and require certain changes.

Databases that do not use the OpenAthens links

These databases use OpenAthens; however, OpenAthens does not appear in the URL. Editing URLs can be tricky, so please Ask Us. We are happy to help you find the correct URL for a database, ebook, journal, article, etc.

 

Database Instructions

EBSCO

If the link following the proxy log on begins with https://search.ebscohost.com

Step 1: Remove the proxy.

  • Example starting URL:
    • https://proxy.bc.edu/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=eue
  • Remove proxy:
    • https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=eue

Step 2: Add "&authtype=ip,shib&custid=s4194587" to the end of the URL.

  • If there is an existing "authtype" (such as in the example here) or "custid" it will need to be removed
  • The link above becomes:
    • https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=ehost&defaultdb=eue&authtype=ip,shib&custid=s4194587
Gale

If the link following the proxy begins with https://infotrac.galegroup.com, remove the proxy.

  • Example starting URL:
    • https://proxy.bc.edu/login?url=https://infotrac.gale.com/itweb/mlin_m_bostcoll?db=AONE
  • Becomes:
    • https://infotrac.gale.com/itweb/mlin_m_bostcoll?db=AONE
Kanopy

Kanopy URLs should all contain the ID "bc" in the URL and do not require any modification.

  • https://bc.kanopy.com/video/danton
O'Reilly Safari

O'Reilly URLs should all contain the ID "boston-college" in the URL and do not require any modification.

  • http://go.oreilly.com/boston-college/library/view/-/9781400863440/
ProQuest

If the link following the proxy begins with http://proquest.com, remove the proxy.bc.edu.

  • Example starting URL:
    • https://proxy.bc.edu/login?url=https://search.proquest.com/sociology/advanced?accountid=9673
  • Becomes:
    • https://search.proquest.com/sociology/advanced?accountid=9673

*Does not apply to URLs beginning with "congressional.proquest.com" or "hv.proquest.com"
ProQuest Ebook Central

ProQuest Ebook Central URLs should all contain the ID "bostoncollege-ebooks" in the URL and do not require any modification.

Resources still using EZproxy

There are some resources that still use "proxy.bc.edu" and may migrate over time to OpenAthens.
