Guide to the Slavic & Eastern Languages Collections

The primary purpose of the collection is to support the teaching and research needs of the faculty and students in the Slavic & Eastern Languages and Literatures Department

 

Disciplinary Scope and Collecting Emphases

Linguistics collection development is focused on the Indo-European, Semitic and Far-Eastern Languages.  A number of faculty research and teaching areas are taken into consideration in collection building.  In Linguistics such areas include general and historical linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, semantics, syntactic theory, teaching English as a foreign language, theories of language learning in historical perspective, morphology,  etc.  In Russian, they include such areas as classical and modern Russian literature and film, etc.  In Asian Studies they include historical linguistics, culture studies, and teaching far-eastern languages including Chinese, Japanese and Korean.  

For scholarly content preference is given to materials published by university presses and scholarly publishers such as Academic Studies Press, Bloomsbury, Brill, De Gruyter, John Benjamins, Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge,  and Springfield.  Major publishers in Russia are Aleteiia, Corpus, Izdatel’stvo Ivana Limbakha, NLO, OGI, Redaktsia Eleny Shubinoi.
