The collection primarily serves the curricular and research needs of the Department of Philosophy, but also supports faculty and students in Theology and the undergraduate Core.
Development of the collection follows the research and teaching interests of the department, which at present are focused on Western philosophy, history of philosophy, speculative philosophy, logic, and ethics. Works by and about major ancient and medieval thinkers are collected intensively, as are works by and about major modern and contemporary continental philosophers.
