Finding the right test, measure, or instrument can take several steps. This guide was designed to help you through these steps by answering some frequently asked questions. Key Term: Commercial Tests
Commercial tests are standardized tests that are available through commercial vendors. These are usually available if you purchase them, and you often need to have special qualifications to administer them. The Educational Resource Center owns a number of commercial tests.

Frequently Asked Questions for Finding Tests & Measures
How do I locate tests I already know the name of? What books in the library have tests that I can photocopy? How do I find tests in journal articles? Where can I find test reviews? Is the Web a good place to find tests? Are dissertations useful for finding tests? The American Psychological Association also has an excellent site with frequently asked questions about finding tests.
Key Term: Unpublished Tests
Unpublished tests are tests, scales, or questionnaires that have been developed by psychology students and researchers. Unpublished tests can be found in selected books, as an appendix in journal articles, and in the appendix of dissertations. While unpublished tests do not have to be purchased, but in general you will need to seek permission from the author to administer the test.
