A lit. review implies a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the principal scholarly research relating to the topic being studied.
The review helps form the intellectual framework for the study.
The literature cited does not have to be exhaustive; the objective is certainly not to list as many relevant books, articles, reports as possible.
However, the review should contain the most pertinent studies and show an awareness of important past research and practices and promising current research and practices in the field.
