"We are all children of God"

Interfaith Relations in Twentieth Century Boston

Exhibit launch and opening program/reception: Wednesday, October 23, 2019, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Sponsored by The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry (STM), the Boston College Libraries, and Archdiocese of Boston.

Richard James Cushing served as Archbishop of Boston from 1944 until 1970. Made a Cardinal in 1958, Cushing was a pioneering figure in interfaith relations. The bold strides he took to advance ecumenical dialogue for mid-twentieth century Catholics foreshadowed both Nostra Aetate and Unitatis Redintegratio at Vatican II.

"We are all children of God:" Interfaith Relations in Twentieth Century Boston, explores Cushing's undeniable influence and then looks beyond Cushing to the development of doctrine regarding interfaith relations that was a hallmark of the twentieth century Catholic Church.

All are welcome at the opening reception on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Atrium Gallery of Boston College's Theology and Ministry Library. The reception will feature a keynote address by James Bernauer, S.J., Kraft Family Professor in the Philosophy Department and Director of the Center for Christian-Jewish Learning at Boston College. There will also be a panel on interfaith relations/dialogue featuring Professor Ruth Langer of the Theology Department and Professor James O'Toole, Clough Millennium Chair in History.

The exhibition will remain in the Atrium Gallery through the remainder of the fall semester, 2019.  For directions to the TML, please see the Visit page on the Theology and Ministry Library's website. For the launch event on October 23 only, visitors will be allowed to park without a sticker in the large lot in front of the library between 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.
