This collection serves the curricular and research needs of the students and faculty in the African and African Diaspora Department.

Disciplinary Scope & Collecting Emphases

The African and African Diaspora Studies Collection supports a wide range of research and teaching
interests at Boston College. The collection focuses on history, philosophy, religion, literature,
politics, sociology, economics and international relations of the countries of Africa and the
countries associated with the African Diaspora.

The department’s curriculum provides for the inclusion of interdisciplinary courses from the
Sociology, History, Theology, French, Art, and English departments, among others.

Purchasing activity is focused on works published by university presses and reputable
scholarly commercial publishers, chiefly in the United States, Europe and Latin America.
Resource Acquisition and Management staff make every effort to identify sources to fulfill
requests for hard-to-obtain materials.
