This special performance lecture and reception celebrates the release of The Egan Irish Harps: Tradition, Patrons and Players by Nancy Hurrell of Braintree, MA, recently published by Four Courts Press with support from John J. Burns Library. This event is jointly sponsored by the Irish Georgian Society and Boston College Libraries.

Sacred objects such as relics, rosaries, crucifixes, and devotional books were crucial to the early Jesuit missions, playing important roles in proselytization and conversion. This roundtable examined sacred objects in three very different Jesuit missions – England, China, and Northeastern America – to compare the devotional, social, and sometimes political significance that these materials acquired in different geographical and cultural circumstances.
