About RefWorks

Boston College students, faculty, staff and alumni can use either Legacy RefWorks or New (ProQuest) RefWorks to:

  • import references from databases, web sites, or other citation managers
  • organize your references into folders and share folders
  • insert references in any format into your research paper
  • create a bibliography

To begin using RefWorks, create a new account through either the Legacy or New login link. You can also migrate existing records in Legacy RefWorks to New RefWorks by logging into your Legacy RefWorks account and clicking the  "Move to the newest version of RefWorks from ProQuest" link in the far top left corner of the screen.

For more information, visit the full Old/Legacy RefWorks or New Refworks guides.

For assistance, e-mail a librarian or call the O'Neill Reference Desk at 617-552-4472.

What's going on with RefWorks?

As a new version of RefWorks was being created, a series of corporate buyouts, first by ProQuest and then by Ex Libris, created a confusing environment for development and planning. Ex Libris seems to be adding some stability by committing to maintaining the old version of RefWorks (Legacy RefWorks) as long as people are using it, and accelerating development and fixes for New RefWorks.
