Submitting Course Reserves

To submit course reserve requests, please send reading lists and/or syllabi to the TML Circulation Services Supervisor.

Some items may need to be ordered, scanned, recalled, or repaired, which can cause a delay between the time a syllabus is received and the time the material is available for student use. For this reason, syllabi should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure reserves are completed for the first week of classes. Syllabi received close to the beginning of the semester will be worked on in weekly increments until reserves are completed.

Only books from the Boston College Libraries collections can be placed on reserve, but we will gladly purchase needed titles that are not in our collection.

Journal Articles/Book Chapters

TML staff will scan and post a "fair use" portion of the book. The portion that can be considered fair use varies and should be a limited amount tailored to the pedagogical purpose. A fair use portion would seldom exceed 2 chapters or 20%. When multiple chapters from a book are requested, the book itself will be placed on reserve.

Removal of Course Reserve Material

Items may be placed on reserve for Fall, Spring, or Summer sessions. Unless otherwise requested by a course instructor, TML staff will remove materials from course reserve at the end of each semester.
