What is a Hedge Fund?

What Is a Hedge Fund?
Though there are many definitions of hedge funds, perhaps one of the easiest to understand is the one from the BNA database BNA (Tax Management Portfolios Plus,Tax and Accounting Center): A hedge fund is an alternative investment vehicle that trades in stocks, securities and other financial instruments. It does so, however, free of the many regulatory constraints that apply to mutual funds (i.e., “regulated investment companies”). .
See generally Kennard, “The Hedge Fund Versus the Mutual Fund,” 57 Tax Law. 133 (2004).
