Google Scholar Tips

This guide was designed to provide research tips for students taking Research Methods with Professor Sarah Babb.

About Google Scholar

Google Scholar is essentially a subset of Google that permits one to conduct a broad search of scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed articles, working papers, theses, books, preprints, court opinions, abstracts, technical reports etc.

Google Scholar & Find It

You can set up Google Scholar so that is it directly connects you to BC's online journals.
When you are working on campus, Google Scholar will provide you with a way to link to the full-text of an article. These links will say: Find It @ BC.

You can set up Google Scholar so that you can get to the Find It @ BC link from home:

  • Go to Google Scholar
  • Click on Settings, a link on the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  • Go to Library Links
  • Type in Boston College, click on Find Library, and select "Boston College Libraries--Findit@BC."

  • Click on the Save Preferences button (bottom right).
